{"id":214543,"date":"2021-11-30T13:31:26","date_gmt":"2021-11-30T12:31:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.growens.io\/?p=214543"},"modified":"2023-03-01T09:29:05","modified_gmt":"2023-03-01T08:29:05","slug":"introducing-wow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.growens.io\/en\/introducing-wow\/","title":{"rendered":"Introducing Growens WoW"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Over the last few months, during our conversations in the virtual and physical hallways of our company, we started asking ourselves <strong>what our future way of working will look like<\/strong>, in order to understand the best way to move forward for Growens and its business units.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Today we are thrilled to introduce the <\/span><b>Growens Way of Working (WoW)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: a manifesto that sets the ground rules for the future of our Group, transforming the fleeting remote experience of the pandemic into a structural, vision-driven cultural backbone of the company.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From now on, Growens will work in a <\/span><b>hybrid<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (i.e. mixing presence in the office and remote work) and <\/span><b>flexible way<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (i.e. without imposed schemes in terms of scheduling and of workload management, but according to fluid and constantly modifiable models).<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Flexibility is a strategic driver<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Growens&#8217; path towards flexible working began in 2018, with a <strong>pilot project involving Italian employees<\/strong>. In other countries, the situation was heterogeneous: some teams were natively remote, others strongly rooted in physical presence in the office.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Covid-19 pandemic leveled any difference, <strong>forcing the adoption of remote work<\/strong>. This led to dismantling some cornerstones often rooted in Western working culture:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that a specific physical place (the office) is a fundamental part of the very concept of &#8220;work&#8221;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that aiming at reconciling work and personal well-being (for example by working for periods of time from a seaside vacation home, or to better juggle work and childcare) is reprehensible<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that only direct control of people can guarantee their productivity.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The pandemic experience has taught us that work is about <\/span><b>connection, creativity, concentration, and empowerment<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. These elements can occur anywhere and thrive in an endless kaleidoscope of possibilities and combinations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Taking into consideration the bigger picture above the contingency of the ongoing pandemic and imagining our company\u2019s future, we identified <strong>structural flexibility as a strategic pivot<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>For the people<\/strong>, as a means of Caring and Trust to improve work\/life balance, optimize productivity and incentivize a proactive choice when it comes to spaces, modalities, and timing of work.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>For the business<\/strong>, to respond in a timely and agile way to the ever-changing external circumstances, granting business operations continuity no matter what.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This decision has effects on the <\/span><b>environment<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, reducing pollution tied to commuting, but also on our<\/span><b> communities, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">allowing decentralization of talent on our territory which was previously unthinkable. Our employees can work from any of our amazing offices in Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands, mingling with colleagues from one\u2019s own and other business units.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Working from the office is <strong>recommended on specific occasions<\/strong> \u2014 for instance, upon one\u2019s onboarding, when starting a new project, or for fun company events.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In short, whenever sitting across a table and having all hands (physically) on deck gives additional value.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Work from home<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When, during the pandemic, home was <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> only option, we came to either love it or endure it. From now on, <\/span><b>working from home is a free choice<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s recommended when work requires concentration or a tight schedule of remote meetings. We make the most of it to achieve a <strong>better work\/life balance<\/strong> and to take care of our loved ones.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On some occasions, presence at the office will be required \u2014 so it\u2019s important that people managers and individual contributors work out the best schedule to accommodate all needs.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Work from anywhere<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAnywhere\u201d is any place other than a designated office or home address. Since many of us relocated during the pandemic to be closer to our families, or just to get out of the city, we have decided to <strong>make this option available for good<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Employees have the opportunity to travel and work from a different place for short periods of time. Longer (or even permanent) stays are possible in principle, but must be evaluated carefully due to legal provisions for insurance and tax treatment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>The evolution of Growens WoW<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While closely monitoring how the pandemic evolved across the globe, and observing how governments and companies approached this \u201cnew world\u201d, we took our time to <strong>work out what <\/strong><\/span><strong><i>our<\/i><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong> way would be<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We pondered a variety of options, weighing their pros and cons, always checking them against our values and feasibility. Above all else, we wanted to <strong>avoid rushing<\/strong> into something unsustainable in the long run and not in line with our broader culture.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We wanted to design the best possible solution for all involved parties &#8211; employees, our business, our families, our communities.
